The Managing Director and Chief Executive, Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), Brig. Gen. M. Bashir and his team on Wednesday, 10th October 2018 paid a working visit to the head office of the Millard Fuller Foundation.
While welcoming the team, the CEO of Millard Fuller Foundation, Sam Odia, said that for truly affordable homes to be a reality in Nigeria, policymakers and housing developers need to constantly put the common man in the middle of their planning. “We have a large percentage of poor people in Nigeria; let’s begin to design our houses with the common man in the middle of our planning.”
Odia further stated: “We need to regularly put into consideration the purchasing power of the potential off-taker. Yes, that man wants a big house with plenty of rooms, but the question we should ask is this: can he afford it? We are proud that the houses we are building have 93% local content. This has led to the creation of massive jobs for Nigerians. We are excited that we are not just building affordable homes, we are providing jobs and re-engineering people’s lives.” Odia concluded.
The team was then taken on a tour of the Fuller Housing projects. Visibly impressed, the team commended the Millard Fuller Foundation for its efforts in providing truly affordable homes for the low-income cadre in the country.
The Nigeria Army Post Housing Scheme is tasked with the responsibility of proving homes for the officers and men of the Nigeria Army.
